BHI Catalog:  Reptiles & Amphibians:  Pterosaurs

  Pterosaurs

Pterosaurs were the first vertebrates to take powered flight. This extraordinary group of animals varied in size from that of the sparrow, up to pterosaurs with a wingspan of more than 30 feet. These winged reptiles first appeared in the Late Triassic about 227 MYA, and continued to fill the skies until the end of the Cretaceous. Pterosaurs have been found on every continent.
