'BUCKY' is a sub-adult T. rex of the robust (female) morphotype.
The skeleton was discovered in 1998 by its namesake, Bucky Derflinger, a rodeo cowboy and rancher, who was himself a sub-adult at the time of discovery. Black Hills Institute did the excavation in 2001 and 2002.
The skull is a scientific reconstruction which utilized modified casts of DUFFY (another sub-adult T. rex) and other T. rex specimens.
