Gorgosaurus sp. Right Tibia with Pathologic Fibula - Research Replica  (BHI #127640)
Gorgosaurus sp. Right Tibia with Pathologic Fibula - Research Replica
Detailed Images

Gorgosaurus is believed to have been a speedy predator and although this serious injury may have slowed the animal down, the leg eventually healed with little sign of infection.

This fibula exhibits pathology consistent with a severe injury to the right leg. The tibia is the larger and stronger of the two leg bones below the knee. A healthy fibula connects to the upper and lower ends of the tibia. This fibula experienced an injury forcing its connection to the lower end of the tibia to become disjointed, which brought about a cessation of growth and/or atrophy to the fibula. Whether the injury was caused by an altercation with another dinosaur or the result of an accident is not clear
