Psittacosaurus was an Early Cretaceous ceratopsian dinosaur. The name Psittacosaurus means parrot lizard. Its top jaw is characterized by a prominent beak. Although not as well known as Triceratops, many more complete skeletons of Psittacosaurus have been discovered. Hundreds of Psittacosaurus, of all stages of development, have been found in China.
Psittacosaurus thrived in the Early Cretaceous Period in Asia. Although hundreds of these small ceratopsian dinosaurs are found, many are poorly preserved. This well-preserved composite skeleton is from a large adult. It was discovered in lake shore deposits from the Yixian Formation in China.
